Mr. Aune was a trial lawyer for more than 40 years, specializing in real estate, insurance coverage and a broad range of civil litigation. He began mediating disputes in 1994, and currently limits his work to alternative dispute resolution. Mr. Aune began his legal career with a small litigation firm in San Francisco, handling a wide variety of litigation matters and trials. In 1994 he opened his own law office, Aune & Associates, specializing in real estate litigation, including construction defects and homeowner association matters. He has tried cases to jury verdict in virtually all of the Bay Area counties, as well as in numerous courts throughout California. Mr. Aune’s undergraduate degree is in mechanical engineering, and before his law career he was an engineer with Chevron Corporation. His responsibilities included construction project supervision, engineering analyses and engineering projects related to environmental protection.

As an attorney, Mr. Aune was listed in the nationally recognized Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, earning an “AV” rating, the highest possible rating for both legal ability and ethical standards.

As a trained mediator, Mr. Aune has mediated real estate matters for approximately 25 years. Disputes have included homeowner association issues, construction defect claims, insurance coverage, fraud and non-disclosure in real estate transactions, and commercial lease disputes.

For more than 25 years Mr. Aune has also acted as a volunteer judge pro tem in the San Francisco Superior Court, conducting settlement conferences and presiding over Small Claims Court proceedings. He also provides mediation services as a member of the San Francisco Bar Association panel of approved mediators (

Mr. Aune also acts as an arbitrator in real estate matters, conducting hearings and issuing rulings often much more efficiently than could be achieved through the court system.
